Example Pitches to Potential Employers

The first impression you make on a professor or other employer can be very influential. You want to give them an idea of why you're contacting them while keeping their attention and making them interested in the rest of what you have to say. To help you get started, other IAESTE students have provided the following examples of how you can start your pitch to the potential employer. Feel free to adapt these or come up with your own based on the style of one of the following:

  1. My name is __________. I'm with a student organization called IAESTE at NC State, an international organization which partners highly qualified international students with local industries and universities. This is a reciprocal exchange that allows for NCSU students to work abroad and assures you of a competent intern who can help your company compete in the global marketplace.
  2. Howdy! (You can tell where this one's from!) My name is _________. I'm a student member of an international non-profit organization called IAESTE. Our primary goal is to develop global skills in tomorrow's technical leaders through a reciprocal internship exchange. I would like to talk to you about the possibility of your company serving as a host employer to an international student.
  3. Hello, I'm ________. I'm from Turkey and I'm an international student involved with IAESTE at Texas A&M. IAESTE is a student organization that provides for a reciprocal exchange of global knowledge and internships that develop leadership skills in your future employees. We have a 30,000 student applicant pool and are represented in over 80 countries. This kind of diversity will help make your company a contender in the world market.
  4. Are you interested in talented international students and expanding your contacts to other countries? We are a non-profit international organization that can help you recruit international students from currently 86 countries all over the world. We also take care of processing visas, housing, and arranging social and cultural activities.
  5. I'm a student member in the local chapter of IAESTE that organizes and sponsors international intern exchanges in technical fields. We would like to provide you with a qualified intern for next summer. We will handle all travel, visa, and lodging, as well as provide reception and cultural immersion throughout the summer. Because it's an exchange, this will also allow a bright young American mind to have a similar experience in another country.
  6. We're a student group that works with professors to give PSU students a chance to work abroad in their field. If you usually hire summer interns, we can trade that for an international position for a PSU student when you choose to hire a student from another country. You can specify exactly what type of intern you want and we'll take care of visas, bank accounts, and all of their social activities.
  7. Hi, my name is _________ and I am a member of IAESTE NCSU, which is an international program for exchanges of technical students. It's a great opportunity for your company to get an international intern with minimum stress on your company, as our local committee of IAESTE handles lodging, visas, and other necessary paperwork. In addition to the benefits gained by your company, our local committee has the opportunity to send a member abroad to help globalize tomorrow's technical leaders.
  8. I am with the local Chapter of IAESTE at UW-Madison. IAESTE is a work exchange program that allows employers to specify exactly what they need for a project, and they will get it in the form of a bright international intern. It does not cost much to support an intern ($300-350 per week and a 1-time program fee to sponsor their visa), and you are giving an international student some international work experience as well as an opportunity to learn another culture.
